Frequently Asked Questions
The Carlisle Kiwanis Club has dedicated its 100 Year Anniversary to a project that better serves the children in our community. We have set a goal to raise $650,000 to replace the playground at LeTort Park.
This playground structure has been called "Fort LeTort" since it was built in 1993. After 29 years of use, the playground has begun to show its age. Our original intent was to complete this project as a community build effort, just as it was done in 1993. But with the size scope of the project and the introduction of COVID-19, this just isn’t realistic. Shifting to a professional build removes a lot of the "what ifs" and increases our success rate to 100%.

Why are you replacing Fort LeTort?
The Carlisle Kiwanis Club conducted a feasibility study in 2019 with the approval of the Carlisle Parks & Recreation Department and the professional assessment of the structure is that a full replacement would be recommended.
From the Assessment:
The playground has been well cared for over the years. There are many minor maintenance and safety compliance issues. Making the decision to replace your playgrounds is not an easy one. These structures typically have deep ties to the community. While this is our recommendation the playground could also undergo a major renovation. You just need to realize the pros and cons of each option and determine what fits your need and goals.
When will the playground be replaced?
We anticipate the project will be completed in April 2023.
Will 100% of my donation be used for the playground replacement?
Yes! We are proud the let you know that 100% of your donation will go directly toward the Fort LeTort project as all administrative tasks are provided by volunteers from our club.
What will happen to the existing fence picket with my name?
Donated Fence Pickets from the Fort LeTort built in 1993 will be made available for pick up for those who would like to keep these pickets as a memento of the charitable donation made to build the original structure. We anticipate these will be made available to those who want them in April 2023 prior to the demolition of the existing structure.
How can I contribute?
Please make checks payable to the "Carlisle Kiwanis Foundation" and include "Fort LeTort" in the memo line. All donations are tax-deductible and will provide children in our community with a new and safe playground that is estimated to last 40 to 50 years.
Retirees can also make a donation through a QCD - Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) which allows IRA holders, age 70 ½ or older, to donate to a qualified charity from their Traditional IRA tax-free.
